Chemical Industry Flows Forward!

Driven by the growing demands for sustainability and efficiency in the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries, Halen Technologies was founded by flow chemistry experts to meet these goals. With the headquarters based in the city of Breda, the Netherlands, Halen Technologies is engaged in offering scalable flow reactor technologies.

Our mission is to deliver the best available flow solutions to successfully bridge the gap between lab research and commercial manufacturing. By leveraging scalable flow technologies, we aim to minimize the time to market and maximize the success of our customers.

Dr. Hannes P. L. Gemoets

With over a decade of expertise in both continuous-flow reactor development and international business, Hannes has distinguished himself as an expert in the flow chemistry field. His expertise is in the development of flow reactor technology and process scale-up applications, with a deep understanding of photo-, electrochemistry, process intensification, and multiphase processes.

Hannes' flow journey started back in 2013 during his M.Sc. thesis titled “Rapid Trifluoromethylation and Perfluoroalkylation of Five‐Membered Heterocycles by Photoredox Catalysis in Continuous Flow” and graduated cum laude at the KU Leuven. Moreover, Hannes holds a certificate in Business Administration from the Vlerick Business School, and received his Ph.D. degree in 2017, with the thesis titled: “Enabling and Accelerating C–H Bond Functionalization Through Continuous-Flow Chemistry” from the renowned Micro Flow Chemistry & Process Technology group supervised by professor Timothy Noël, currently located at the University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Hannes has authored highly cited peer-reviewed articles (>1400 citations), is an inventor on multiple patents, and presented at over 50 international conferences and venues. In 2018, he was granted US O-1 visa status as an “Individual with Extraordinary Ability in the Sciences” for his distinguished contributions to the flow chemistry field.

Following a brief tenure in the US with several major pharmaceutical companies, Hannes joined the startup Creaflow, a part of the Ecosynth group in Belgium. After Ecsoynth ceased operations at the beginning of 2024, Hannes decided to stay within the field of flow chemistry and co-founded Halen Technologies in March 2024.
